Taking on new business clients for the new tax year — the January calendar fills up early. Book a meeting

Your numbers, kept straight and explained in plain English

We look after the books, payroll and tax for about eighty small businesses in Monroe County, on a fixed monthly fee you agree before we start. You get a partner’s direct line, not a ticket number.

  • CPA partners
  • Fixed monthly fees
  • Since 2011

What we look after

Take one thing off your desk, or all of it.

  • Bookkeeping

Monthly reconciliations and clean books you can actually read, in QuickBooks or Xero.

    More about bookkeeping
  • Payroll

Run on time, filed on time, with every notice from the state handled by us.

  • Business tax

Federal and New York returns for LLCs, S-corps and partnerships, planned in the autumn rather than discovered in April.

    More about business tax
  • Personal tax

For owners, landlords and anyone whose return has stopped being simple.

  • New business set-up

Entity choice, EIN, sales tax registration and a bookkeeping system that will not need replacing in a year.

  • Advisory

Cash-flow forecasts, pricing, buying or selling a business: the conversations before the big decisions.

Two partners, one phone number each

Harrow & Finch opened in 2011 when Miriam Harrow and Daniel Finch left a large firm to do the work they liked best: looking after small businesses closely enough to know what is going on.

We keep the practice small on purpose. Every client has a partner they can call, and that partner knows the business well enough to answer without opening a file.

How we work

  • A fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing
  • A partner’s direct line
  • Replies within one working day
  • Nothing filed without you seeing it first

Who does the work

  • Miriam Harrow

    Miriam Harrow, CPA

    Partner — tax

Twenty years in tax, the last fourteen of them here. Will tell you the answer you did not want, kindly.

  • Daniel Finch

    Daniel Finch, CPA

    Partner — advisory and bookkeeping

Runs the bookkeeping team and the forecasting work. Reads a cash-flow statement the way other people read a menu.

  • Grace Adeyemi

    Grace Adeyemi

    Senior bookkeeper

Keeps thirty sets of books straight and has never once lost a receipt.

How it starts

Three steps, no obligation until the second one.

  1. A free first meeting

An hour, in person or by video, about where the business is and what is getting in the way.

  2. A fixed quote

One page: what we will do each month and what it costs. No hourly billing.

  3. We take it over

We collect what we need from your old accountant or your shoebox, and the first monthly summary arrives within six weeks.

Fixed fees, agreed up front

Most clients land in one of these. Every quote is written before any work starts.

  • Books only

    from $250/month

Monthly bookkeeping and a one-page summary.

    • Monthly reconciliations
    • Receipt capture
    • Year-end pack for your tax preparer
  • Everything

    from $750/month

For owners who want the finance function run for them.

    • Everything in Books and tax
    • Payroll
    • Quarterly forecast
    • A partner on call

What clients say

I was doing my own books at eleven at night. Now I get a summary on the fourth of every month and I actually understand it.

Rosa L.Café owner

Daniel talked me out of an S-corp election that would have cost me money. Who does that?

Kwame B.Electrical contractor

A state notice arrived, I forwarded it, and I never heard about it again. Worth the fee on its own.

Jen P.Landlord

Questions people ask first

What does the first meeting cost?

Nothing. It is an hour of conversation so we both know whether we should work together.

Can you take over mid-year?

Yes. We collect what exists from your previous accountant or your own records, and any catch-up work is quoted separately before we begin.

Do you work with businesses outside Rochester?

Most clients are in Monroe County, but the work is done online and we have clients across New York State.

Which software do you use?

QuickBooks Online and Xero. We will recommend one if you have neither.
